Ananaya Sharma’s 5-Wicket Masterclass Leads J&K Women to a Resounding Victory

In a thrilling encounter of the Senior Women’s One-Day Trophy, Jammu and Kashmir’s women’s cricket team delivered a stellar performance to defeat Himachal Pradesh by 9 wickets at Deshbandhu Park Ground, Kolkata. The star of the show was 19-year-old leg-spinner Ananaya Sharma, whose magnificent 5-wicket haul dismantled Himachal Pradesh’s batting lineup and kept J&K’s knockout hopes alive. 

Ananaya’s spell was a brilliant display of skill and strategy, as she conceded only 21 runs in 4.5 overs while claiming five crucial wickets. Her sharp leg-spin left Himachal’s batters confounded, securing her place as one of the most promising young talents in Indian women’s cricket. Reflecting on her performance, Ananaya said, “It’s an honor to contribute to the team’s success. Every ball I bowled today was with the aim of making my team proud.” 

Supporting her sensational effort was speedster Bismah Hassan, who claimed three early wickets, ensuring Himachal Pradesh was restricted to a modest total of 101 runs. Together, the bowling duo showcased remarkable teamwork and precision, giving J&K the upper hand. 

In the chase, J&K’s batting lineup displayed maturity and composure. Chitra Singh Jamwal led from the front with a steady 41 off 65 balls, while Bawandeep Kaur contributed an elegant 39 runs. The team comfortably reached the target in just 28.4 overs, marking their fifth victory in six matches. 

Brigadier Anil Gupta, praising the team’s performance, remarked, “This victory is a testament to the talent and teamwork of our players. Ananaya Sharma and Bismah Hassan’s exceptional bowling, combined with Chitra and Bawandeep’s batting, made this a truly memorable win.”
