In a tragic incident in Giridih district, Jharkhand, a 42-year-old boring machine driver named Sanjay Das was allegedly beaten to death by a police patrol team in the Taratand forest area on the night of May 6, 2025. According to family members, Sanjay was en route to a work site when he was stopped by a police patrol demanding money. Upon his refusal, he was reportedly assaulted, leading to his death. Visible injury marks were found on his abdomen.

The incident has sparked outrage among locals. Family members and villagers staged a protest outside the Taratand police station, demanding justice and accountability. They allege that the police attempted to cover up the incident by informing the vehicle owner only after Sanjay lost consciousness.

Sadar Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Jeetwahan stated that an investigation is underway, and the exact cause of death will be determined after the post-mortem report is released. He emphasized that conclusions should not be drawn without a thorough inquiry.

This incident adds to a series of recent tensions in Giridih. In a separate event on April 29, 2025, at least 14 individuals were arrested for allegedly pelting stones at police personnel and locking a circle officer in his chamber during a protest in the Tisri area.
