The Central Government has turned down Jharkhand’s claim of pending dues amounting to ₹1.36 lakh crore. Responding to questions raised in Parliament, the Union Ministry of Finance asserted that all payments due to Jharkhand, including GST compensation, coal mining royalties, and other central assistance, have already been cleared.
The Jharkhand Government, led by the Chief Minister, Hemant Soren had earlier sent multiple letters to the Center urging the release of what they described as pending funds essential for the state’s economic development. The funds are reportedly connected to taxes, coal production royalties, and development grants.
The Center’s response has stirred discussions about financial relations between the state and the Union Government. Analysts suggest this could lead to political friction as the state insists on further reviews and verifications.
The matter remains a key focus for both state leaders and the public, as Jharkhand continues to push for financial support to fuel infrastructure and welfare projects.
