The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Joint Secretary, Devajit Saikia, has been appointed as the Acting Secretary following the departure of Jay Shah.

Saikia, a former first-class cricketer from Assam, was appointed by BCCI President Roger Binny using constitutional powers under Clause 7(1)(d) of the BCCI Constitution. This clause allows the president to delegate secretarial functions to another office bearer in case of a vacancy or indisposition until the position is permanently filled.

In an official letter, Binny expressed confidence in Saikia’s ability to handle the responsibilities effectively. Currently serving as the Advocate General of Assam, Saikia is expected to hold this position until September 2025, when a permanent appointment will be made as per the BCCI’s regulations.

Saikia’s appointment ensures continuity in the functioning of the Indian cricket board as it transitions to finding a long-term replacement for the secretary role.
