On May 8, 2025, a district-level meeting of the National Narcotics Coordination (NCORD) committee was held at the Collectorate auditorium under the chairmanship of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) H.P. Janardanan.
During the meeting, the SSP and ADM (Law and Order) engaged in an in-depth discussion on protecting children, teenagers, and youth from falling into drug addiction. Various methods of substance abuse and the accessibility of narcotics were also discussed. All concerned departments were instructed to launch aggressive campaigns to curb the availability and consumption of narcotic substances.
To restrict the sale of intoxicants, instructions were issued to the Civil Surgeon’s representative to intensify field operations. The SSP emphasized the need for joint raids and directed the District Education Officer (DEO) and District Superintendent of Education to conduct awareness workshops in schools. He also ordered the formation of anti-drug teams in all schools.
Furthermore, the SSP directed all departments to develop robust internal intelligence networks. The Agriculture Officer was instructed to increase vigilance in rural areas to prevent illegal cultivation of narcotic plants and to enhance the visibility of Krishi Mitras (farmer friends) in the field. The District Education Superintendent was asked to submit a report listing schools located near shops selling tobacco or other intoxicants to enable targeted crackdowns.
ADM Piyush Sinha (Law and Order) directed all Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) to ensure strict enforcement against the use of drugs in their respective areas. He stressed the need for grassroots awareness programs at the village and panchayat levels and urged the involvement of Anganwadi workers and their assistants in these efforts.
ADM Sinha highlighted that saving even one child from the grip of drugs can transform not only that child’s future but also their family and future generations. He further called for strict action against individuals responsible for introducing youth to drugs.
