Madhya Pradesh, Indore
A fire broke out in a DEMU passenger train traveling from Indore to Ratlam, causing panic among passengers. The incident occurred at around 5:15 p.m. on Sunday between Preetamnagar and Runija railway stations. When smoke was seen coming from the engine, the locomotive pilot immediately stopped the train. The sudden halt and visible smoke led to a rush among the passengers, who quickly evacuated and ran towards the nearby fields with their belongings.
The train operates between Dr. Ambedkar Nagar (Mhow) and Ratlam, and in the evening, it heads to Bhilwara at 6:30 p.m. The accident happened roughly 30 kilometers before the train was due to reach Ratlam.
After stopping the train, the pilot checked under the engine, where he observed flames. He instructed the passengers to exit the train. Nearby villagers, upon noticing the situation, came forward to help extinguish the fire. The site of the incident is located about 30 kilometers from Ratlam station. Due to an ongoing construction of an underpass bridge, the fire brigade could not access the area. Local residents from Preetam Nagar used pipes from nearby fields to supply water, which eventually helped control the fire. Currently, the train remains halted on the tracks, and DRM Rajneesh Kumar from Ratlam is on his way to the site for inspection.
