The High Court has directed the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) and builders to present their defenses regarding illegal constructions mentioned in a Public Interest Litigation (PIL). The court emphasized fairness by insisting all identified illegal structures be included as respondents.

During the hearing, JNAC Special Officer Krishna Kumar detailed the measures taken, such as issuing notices, allowing time for compliance, and vacating basements meant for parking. He claimed that buildings with major violations had been demolished as per court orders. However, the petitioner’s lawyer argued that no significant demolitions had occurred and sought accountability from JNAC.

The court ordered affidavits from both JNAC and the builders, and separate hearings will address each case. HDFC Bank’s request for a stay on demolitions was opposed by the petitioner, citing JNAC’s alleged inaction.

The next hearing is scheduled for December 6  with advocates Akhilesh Srivastava and M.I. Hasan representing the petitioner.
