Jammu and Kashmir is currently experiencing a bone-chilling winter, with Srinagar witnessing its coldest December night in five decades on Saturday, 21 December. The temperature plummeted to -8.5°C, marking the coldest December night since 1974, when the mercury had dropped to -10.3°C. 

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this is the third coldest December night in Srinagar’s recorded history, dating back to 1891. Such extreme conditions highlight the harshness of the winter season in the region, with temperatures creating severe challenges for residents.
