Trial reels are like a sneak preview for the content. It helps users share experimental reels first with people who don’t follow them to test how the content will perform. If a trial reel performs well, users can either manually share it with your followers or enable an automatic sharing option once the trial ends.
To share an Instagram reel as a trial, users have to follow the regular steps for creating a reel. However, before users hit the share button, they have to tap the toggle switch to activate the “Trial” option.
Once users have shared their Trial reel, they can find it by going to your profile, where it will be seen alongside any drafts you may have saved.
People can only see that it is a Trail reel, as it will not appear on the main grid of their profile or in the reels tab for others to view.
Additionally, user’s followers cannot see the Trial reel in their feeds or in the reels section unless they choose to make it public later on.
About 24 hours after users share a Trial reel, they can check engagement metrics in the reels viewer. Instagram will also provide insights on how the Trial performed to previous ones.
If the Trial reel is performing well, creators have the option to choose “share with everyone.” Alternatively, you can set Instagram to automatically share the Trial reel with their followers if it gets good views within the first 72 hours.
