Jharkhand’s ruling party, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), is preparing to contest the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections and has reportedly demanded 12 seats from ally Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) as part of seat-sharing discussions. Though the demand hasn’t been officially confirmed, the move has sparked concern within the RJD camp.

Discussions between JMM and its allies, including RJD and Congress, have been ongoing for the past six months regarding participation in the Bihar elections. The topic also featured in JMM’s recent state convention held in Ranchi.

JMM justifies its interest by pointing to its support base in Bihar’s border constituencies. According to party insiders, the 12 constituencies JMM is targeting include Tarapur, Katoria, Manihari, Jhajha, Banka, Thakurganj, Rupauli, Rampur, Banmankhi, Jamalpur, Pirpainti, and Chakai.

This won’t be the first time JMM contests in Bihar. The party had fielded candidates in the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections across three phases but failed to secure any seats.

With this fresh push, JMM aims to establish a stronger political footprint in the bordering regions of Bihar, banking on its historical and cultural ties with these areas.
