A moderate earthquake of magnitude 5.1 struck the India-Myanmar border region on Friday morning, January 3, 2025. The tremors were recorded at 10:02 AM, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).
The quake’s epicenter was located in Myanmar at latitude 24.92 and longitude 94.97, with a depth of 127 kilometers. The tremors were felt across several northeastern Indian states, including Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Assam, Meghalaya, and Tripura.
Fortunately, there were no immediate reports of damage to property or loss of life. The region, situated in a high seismic zone, frequently experiences earthquakes due to tectonic activity.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and adhere to safety protocols in the event of aftershocks.
