In compliance with a High Court order, the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) conducted a significant anti-encroachment operation near Harmu Panch Mandir on Sunday. The drive targeted several illegal shops and structures, which were removed using bulldozers.
Prior to this, the municipal authorities had issued notices to shopkeepers, asking them to voluntarily vacate the encroached areas. However, as the directives were not followed, the civic body initiated the removal process to reclaim public spaces.
RMC officials stated that the operation was conducted as part of efforts to make public areas encroachment-free, as per the High Court’s directives.
The drive has drawn mixed reactions from locals. While some residents appreciated the move as necessary for public convenience, affected shopkeepers expressed concerns over the loss of their livelihoods.
