Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has apologized for the violence and loss of life in the state. Speaking to the media at the Secretariat, Singh described the past year as highly unfortunate and expressed deep regret. He stated, “I am deeply sorry for what has been happening since May 3, 2023, and I apologize to the people of the state for the losses they have suffered.”
The ongoing ethnic conflict between the Kuki and Meitei communities in Manipur has persisted for over 600 days since it began on May 3, 2023. Addressing the media, CM Singh highlighted the devastating toll of the violence, which has claimed over 200 lives and displaced many residents from their homes.
Singh shared data on the incidents of violence, stating:
From May 2023 to October 2023, 408 incidents of gunfire were recorded.
From November 2023 to April 2024, 345 incidents occurred.
From May 2024 to the present, 112 incidents have been reported.
The Chief Minister expressed sorrow for the loss of loved ones and the displacement of families, emphasizing the need for reconciliation and peace in the state.
