Bollywood actress Preity Zinta has recently addressed allegations concerning a ₹18 crore loan purportedly written off by the New India Cooperative Bank Limited. Reports suggested that the bank had waived this substantial amount, leading to widespread speculation.
In response, Zinta clarified that over twelve years ago, she had an overdraft facility with the said bank. More than a decade ago, she fully repaid all dues related to this facility, and the account was subsequently closed. She emphasized that claims of any loan write-off in her name are baseless and false.
The controversy intensified when the Kerala unit of the Indian National Congress shared a post alleging that Zinta had handed over her social media accounts to a political party in exchange for the loan waiver. Zinta refuted these claims, stating that she manages her social media accounts personally and criticized the dissemination of fake news.
This situation arose amidst reports of financial mismanagement and alleged corruption within the New India Cooperative Bank, leading the Reserve Bank of India to impose restrictions on its operations.
Zinta’s prompt clarification aims to dispel misinformation and maintain her reputation amidst the unfolding banking controversy.
