Jamshedpur MP Bidyut Mahato held meeting with Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Paatil to request approval for the Pump Canal Scheme under the Suvarnarekha Project as part of the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Yojana (PMKSY). The demand was made to approve the scheme under the Accelerated Irrigation Benefits Programme (AIBP).
A formal letter was submitted, highlighting that the Project Preparation Report (PPR) for the Pump Canal Scheme from Chandil Dam to Patamda, Bodam, Nimdih, and Kukdu blocks was submitted to the Water Resources Department, Ranchi, eight months ago. The scheme aims to enhance irrigation capacity for 12,000 hectares in Patamda-Bodam and 9,500 hectares in Nimdih-Kukdu, benefiting predominantly poor tribal farmers in these regions.
The estimated cost of the Patamda-Bodam and Nimdih-Kukdu projects is ₹1,400 crore and ₹600 crore, respectively, totaling ₹2,000 crore. Financial assistance from the Government of India under AIBP is crucial. The Chief Engineer of the Project Appraisal Organization, CWC, New Delhi, has been requested to approve the PPR of the Pump Canal Scheme.
It was also pointed out that for the past four years, no central grant has been received under AIBP for implementing the Suvarnarekha Project. A pending central share of ₹616.91 crore needs to be released before March 31, 2025 to ensure progress.
The Union Minister assured that central assistance would be provided in the current financial year. Additionally, he mentioned that if a Micro Megalift Irrigation Scheme proposal is submitted by the state government, it would be processed promptly.
