Ranchi: A tragic incident occurred on Thursday at Jonha Waterfalls, located in the Angara police station area of Ranchi, when Michael Ghosh, a music teacher at Delhi Public School (DPS), Ranchi, and one of his friends were swept away by the strong water current while trying to take a selfie. Michael was originally a resident of Dhanbad.

According to reports, Michael had visited Jonha Falls with his three friends – Pankaj Srivastava, Ritik, and Samad. Despite heavy rainfall and warnings from Tourist Mitras (volunteer guides) present at the site, the group ventured to the upper side of the waterfall and climbed onto the rocks to click selfies.

While doing so, Michael and one of his friends slipped and fell into the water, getting swept away by the current. Tourist Mitras immediately launched a rescue operation and managed to save one person, but Michael remains missing. A search operation will resume on Friday with the help of local administration and rescue teams.

Another Incident at Hundru Falls, Tourist from Kolkata Rescued

On the same day, another similar incident occurred at Hundru Falls, also in the Angara police station area. Krish Kumar, a tourist from Kolkata, slipped and fell into the water. Fortunately, he was rescued in time by alert Tourist Mitras, who risked their own lives to save him.

Statement from Police:

Angara Police Station in-charge Hiralal Gupta confirmed that three youths were reported to have been swept away at the waterfalls. While two were rescued, one person — Michael Ghosh — is still missing. A comprehensive search and rescue operation will be conducted on Friday with support from police, administration, and local volunteers.
