Uber has launched Uber Shikara in the iconic Dal Lake of Srinagar, marking Asia’s first water transport service. The initiative, which allows users to book traditional shikara rides via the Uber app, promises a seamless experience blending technology with local tradition. Travelers can now pre-book rides, with fares regulated by the government to ensure fairness.

The service, launched by Uber’s India and South Asia President, Prabhjeet Singh, partners with seven local shikara owners and aims to expand as demand grows. Each ride accommodates up to four passengers and can be reserved from 12 hours to 15 days in advance. Available daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the service aims to enhance tourism in Kashmir, providing an innovative way to explore the picturesque landscape.

With no additional fees for shikara operators, the initiative ensures fair compensation for the local boat owners.
