On May 6, 2025, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, feminist organizations, women’s rights activists, and civil society representatives came together to stage a peaceful protest outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Jamshedpur, East Singhbhum district.
The demonstration was held in response to controversial remarks made by BJP MP Dr. Nishikant Dubey concerning Section 377, homosexuality, and transgender individuals, which were deemed offensive and regressive by the protestors.
Over 50 people from diverse backgrounds participated in the protest, carrying the LGBTQIA+ pride flag, copies of the Indian Constitution, and posters with messages of dissent. The participants maintained a dignified and resolute stance as they called for respect, equality, and constitutional rights for all citizens, regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation.
Organizers emphasized that the protest was not only a reaction to the MP’s remarks but also a call to uphold the values of dignity, inclusivity, and justice enshrined in the Indian Constitution.
