Authorities in Gurdaspur district of Punjab, which lies close to the Pakistan border, have enforced a nighttime blackout starting from May 8 until further notice. The blackout will be in effect daily from 9 PM to 5 AM.
Exceptions have been made for central jails and hospitals, though even these institutions are required to keep windows and doors shut to prevent any light from escaping.
The move comes amid heightened border security and intelligence advisories aimed at minimizing visibility from across the border during nighttime hours.
