Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Petrapole Land Port in West Bengal witnessed the inauguration of a state-of-the-art Integrated Check Post (ICP), a new passenger terminal, and the symbolic Maitri Dwar. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who announced the development, highlighted the port’s significance as South Asia’s largest land port, facilitating over 70% of cross-border trade with Bangladesh.
The newly inaugurated passenger terminal is set to transform the landscape of cross-border movement, handling up to 25,000 travelers daily. This development is expected to boost health and education tourism between India and Bangladesh, fostering economic prosperity and enhancing people-to-people connectivity. The port’s modernization aligns with India’s vision of strengthening international cooperation and border security, marking a milestone in regional integration and trade facilitation.
