Jamshedpur: A routine traffic check near Sai Mandir in Sonari took a tragic turn when a scooty rider, attempting to evade capture, collided with a traffic policeman. The officer sustained severe leg injuries and was rushed to Tata Main Hospital (TMH) for treatment.
The incident occurred during an ambush-style traffic inspection, where officers were stationed behind trees to catch violators. A minor riding a scooty without a helmet lost control and struck the policeman as he emerged to stop the vehicle.
The minor and his co-rider were detained on the spot, and the entire incident was captured on CCTV. This method of sudden checks has drawn criticism from locals, who called it unsafe for both officers and the public.
Authorities are expected to evaluate the system to ensure traffic enforcement methods prioritize safety and prevent such incidents in the future.
