Vodafone Idea Ltd (Vi) has filed a fresh petition in the Supreme Court of India, seeking a waiver of over ₹45,000 crore in Adjusted Gross Revenue (AGR) dues, specifically targeting interest, penalties, and interest on penalties. The company argues that without this relief, it may not be able to continue operations beyond the fiscal year 2025–26 due to an inability to secure bank funding.

The Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing for this plea on May 19. Vodafone Idea’s total AGR dues amount to approximately ₹83,400 crore as of March 31, 2025, including ₹28,294 crore in interest, ₹6,012 crore in penalties, and ₹11,151 crore in interest on penalties. The company has already paid ₹7,854 crore towards these dues and has converted a portion of its dues into equity, resulting in the government holding a 49% stake in the company

Despite this, Vodafone Idea reports that banks are unwilling to extend further credit until the AGR liabilities are resolved. The company emphasizes that its survival is crucial for maintaining competition in the telecom sector, as it serves around 200 million subscribers.

The outcome of the Supreme Court hearing could have significant implications for Vodafone Idea’s future operations and the broader Indian telecom industry.
