In response to Congress leader Dr. Ajay Kumar’s objectionable comments against BJP candidate Purnima Sahu in the Purvi Vidhan Sabha constituency, local women took to the streets in a strong show of protest. Gathering on Sunday at the Agrico roundabout, the women denounced Dr. Kumar’s remarks as anti-women and irresponsible, viewing them as an insult to Indian culture and women’s dignity.

The protestors highlighted that in Indian culture, women are seen as symbols of strength and devotion. They praised the central government’s passage of the 33% women’s reservation bill as a significant step for women’s empowerment, contrasting this with Congress’s lack of seriousness on the matter. The protesters demanded an apology from Dr. Ajay Kumar, warning that the protest would intensify if their demand was not met.

Women’s rights activist Vimla Sahu pointed out the honored role of women within Congress itself, noting that remarks like Dr. Kumar’s reflect a clear anti-women mindset within the party. Kailashpati Mishra and other leaders also criticized Dr. Ajay Kumar’s double standards and anti-women stance, labeling his remarks as an insult to emerging women’s empowerment in Indian society.

Throughout the protest, the women demonstrated unity, stating they would take every necessary step to uphold the honor of women and ensure that this affront does not go unanswered.
