Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday proposed that Kashmir could be named after Sage Kashyap. Speaking at the launch of the book “Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh Through the Ages” in Delhi, Shah emphasized the need to liberate history from narratives written to appease rulers. He appealed to historians to write history based on evidence.

Shah referenced Sage Kashyap to highlight Kashmir’s ancient roots, stating that the region is deeply connected to the sage, who meditated there and laid the foundation for its civilization. Historical texts suggest that the Kashyap community was the first to settle in the Kashmir Valley. Temples like Ganpatyar and Kheer Bhawani, mentioned in the Mahabharata, remain significant symbols of the region’s spiritual heritage.

The remark by Amit Shah underscores the importance of understanding Kashmir’s rich cultural and historical legacy, tracing back to ancient scriptures and traditions.
